ACCA FR Exam Preparation: What to Do 3 to 4 Months Before the Exam

Three to four months before the ACCA FR exam, revisit your Financial Accounting (FA) basics such as double entry, the trial balance and year-end adjustments, read through the FR syllabus without trying to learn the standards in advance, plan backwards from your exam date with a realistic weekly schedule, and set up your study material so you are ready to learn FR once classes begin.

ACCA FR Exam Preparation: How to Study Effectively While Attending Classes

To study ACCA FR effectively while attending classes, skim each topic before class, focus on why each accounting treatment is required during class, and practise questions on your own afterwards while keeping a record of your mistakes. Use the ACCA Study Hub alongside your classes, build simple Excel workings for calculation-heavy topics, and revisit earlier topics every week.

ACCA FR Exam Preparation: What to Do in the Final Month

In the final month before the ACCA FR exam, shift from learning to exam performance: find your weak areas in week 1, focus on exam-style question practice in week 2, attempt the specimen exam and a pre-mock on the ACCA Practice Platform in week 3, and refine weak areas and key workings in week 4. Treat a mock score as feedback, not a prediction.

The First Step Matters

Start with one chapter and one question, even if you do not feel ready. CFA and ACCA preparation becomes more manageable through repeated exposure: read, practise, make mistakes, revisit concepts and apply what you learn. You do not need to understand everything on the first attempt. Consistency matters more than waiting for the perfect starting point.

ACCA Exam Structure and Flexibility in India

ACCA session exams run four times a year, in March, June, September and December, while early papers such as BT, MA, FA and LW (English and Global variants) can be taken on demand. You can enter up to four exams per session and eight distinct exams a year, choosing the order within a level. Only Strategic Professional passes carry the seven-year expiry rule.

Why Is Money Today Worth More Than Money Tomorrow?

Time Value of Money (TVM) means money received today is worth more than the same amount received later because it can earn a return in the meantime. Present value converts a future cash flow into today’s value using a discount factor. These ideas underpin investment appraisal and valuation in ACCA and CFA studies.

NPV Explained: How Do You Know If an Investment Is Worth It?

Net Present Value (NPV) compares the present value of a project’s expected future cash inflows with its initial investment. A positive NPV indicates expected value creation at the required return; a negative NPV indicates that the project falls short. This is a core investment appraisal concept for ACCA Financial Management and is also relevant to CFA studies.

IRR Explained: What Return Does an Investment Actually Offer?

Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is the discount rate at which an investment’s Net Present Value (NPV) equals zero. For a conventional project, an IRR above the required return generally supports acceptance. Comparing IRR with NPV helps ACCA and CFA students evaluate investment decisions and understand why a higher percentage return does not always mean greater value creation.

Zombie Companies: When Businesses Survive, But Struggle to Sustain Themselves

A zombie company is an established business that keeps operating despite persistently struggling to earn enough to cover interest on its debt. Analysts commonly assess this using the interest coverage ratio (ICR = EBIT ÷ interest expense); an ICR below 1 means operating earnings do not cover interest. One weak year alone is not enough: persistent difficulty is the concern. In a Dun & Bradstreet study of around 6,000 listed Indian companies, zombie firms (ICR below 1 for three consecutive years) were 5.5% in 2025, down from 8.1% in 2017.

When a ₹23 Dividend Became a Real-Time Finance Lesson

A share price generally adjusts downward by approximately the dividend amount when a stock trades ex-dividend, all else being equal. PTC India offered a striking example in August 2026: after closing at ₹203.30 before its ₹23 interim dividend went ex-dividend, its theoretical adjusted price was ₹180.30. The stock opened at ₹180 on 10 August 2026. This was a close illustration of the principle, not a guaranteed market outcome.

Looking Beyond the Headline: What RIL's Q1 FY26 Results Tell Us About Financial Analysis

Reliance Industries reported around 78% year-on-year growth in profit attributable to shareholders in Q1 FY26, but the quarter also included a ₹8,924 crore gain from selling its Asian Paints investment. The gain was valid reported income, yet it was not a recurring operating result. For analysts, the lesson is to separate reported profit from underlying business performance before drawing conclusions about sustainable growth.
