Yogesh Sakunia brings with him a total of over 15 years of work experience in IB, ER, product management, and training. He started his career in equity research with Crisil and has been running his own financial consulting firm for over a decade now. Yogesh also worked in Product Management with a large training institute, managing their accounting and finance courses. The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) charter is a professional designation administered by CFA Institute. According to CFA Institute, it’s the most respected and recognized investment management designation in the world.
Have a bachelors (or equivalent) degree:
- Or be in the 2nd year of your bachelor's degree program at the time of registration*
- Or have four years of professional work experience (does not have to be investment related)
- Or have a combination of professional work and college experience that totals at least four years. Part-time positions do not qualify, and the four-year total must be accrued prior to enrollment.
The CFA Program has three distinct levels, each culminating in examination, which must be taken in order before moving on to the next level. Exam sittings run as follows:
- Level I - February, May, August and November
- Level II - May and November
- Level III - February and August
Most candidates take 3–4 years to complete all three levels of the CFA exam. The pace depends on personal preparation time and exam schedules, but consistent effort and strategic planning can help you stay on track.
Registration is simple and can be done online through the CFA Institute website. Candidates pay a one-time enrolment fee and the exam fee, which varies based on the registration window (early or standard).
The CFA program isn’t expensive when viewed as an investment in yourself. With total costs around $3,000–$5,000, it offers global recognition and can significantly boost your finance career, making it well worth the value.
There are 2 options which is given by CFA Institute:
- Paid Deferral Option: You can defer you exam (Postpone) to another window.
Paid Re-Scheduling Option: You can re-schedule your exam to another place (Location) & to another date but in the same exam window.
The exam format is computer-based with 180 multiple-choice questions. There are two 2 hours and 15 minute session times with an optional break of 30 minutes in between 2 the sessions.
There is not ideal preparation time for a student, It is subject to change based on the existing knowledge towards the CFA syllabus. Some say 300 hours is enough, some prepare for 800+ hours. You will identify the ideal preparation time once you start your preparation.
Passing CFA Level 1 is a strong step toward building a career in finance, but landing a job depends on more than just clearing the exam. Employers also value skills like financial modeling, programming skillset, communication, and networking.
