JOB OPPORTUNITIES AFTER PROFESSIONAL COURSES

While a lot of jobs require candidates to pass CFA, ACCA, CMA or any other professional course it doesn’t necessarily mean that the candidate will definitely bag the job. Why is it so?

Educational qualifications are like launching pads, they can get one to the interview platform but what matters in the interview and thereafter will be the skill sets which employers look for. A lot of professionally qualified students/candidates are finding difficult to get the job they want. They failed to understand the fact that professional qualification needs to be coupled with skill sets such as;
Skill of ability to explain the concepts with real-world examples, real-world applicability
The skill of making the CV represent what the candidate will bring on the table. Many times candidates have a CV of 3-4 pages which contains only irrelevant stuff.

So what needs to be done? Candidates have to identify the skills with the desired job and then introspect and assess whether they have those skill sets. If they do possess, good, if not then they should get equipped with those skill sets.

For example in Investment Banking Finance roles, knowledge of derivatives & accounting is essential both during the interview and on the job. If you love the role then no matter what, you need to master derivatives. Another example could be Equity Research roles where financial modelling skills are essential there.

So what is your desired job? Do you have the relevant skill sets? A question you need to answer yourself!
